Ocala, Horse Capitol of the World
Ocala, the largest city and county seat of
Marion
County , is known as "the Horse Capitol of the World". Second only to Kentucky in the production of Thoroughbred race horses, Ocala has become the
Mecca of the horse industry. With over 800 horse farms in
Marion
County , many different breeds of horses and types of rid
ing and driving flourish here. This link with the agricultural
industry has allowed
Ocala to keep its small town charm, with rolling, green fields and
majestic oak-shaded roads, while maturing into a small city with
diverse interests and businesses.
But, we're not just a one trick pony, education and the arts are an integral part of Ocala/Marion County. The Appleton Museum with its world class collection of art plays host to numerous events throughout the year. County's location in North Central Florida makes it just a short drive
to either coast, putting Daytona Beach on the east coast or Crystal
River on the west an easy daytrip. The National Forest borders the east
side of Marion County providing lots of opportunites for hiking and
biking.
If
fishing is an interest, there are numerous lakes and springs from which
to choose. For those who like their sports a little more leisurely,
